8:30 am - 11:00 am Employing Key Learnings from Overseas Government Identity Platforms for an Australian Market

Sean Hewitt, Head of Digital Service Design for Universal Credit,Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)
This session will workshop how to employ the key solutions created by overseas government’s identity platforms for an Australian market. In Australia, Businesses and the Public Sector alike have the potential to collectively reduce the cost of verifying identity by $3 billion. This session will explore how people might use a public sector digital verification platform, similar to GOV.UK Verify, to assert their online identity to access a wider range of services across a number of industry sectors.

Key Learning Outcomes

  • How a process similar to the United Kingdom’s open identity exchange can benefit Australian consumers
  • Encouraging a “sandbox” environment so that private organisations will be able to test how a public sector verification platform works for services within their sector.
  • How collaboration between the public and the private sector can protect people and businesses from identity theft and fraud
